One of the many futuristic weapons created for the classic 1975 TV series Space: 1999, the Heavy Laser was described as a “hand-held armour-piercing laser” capable of destroying an entire spaceship. It fired a distinctive red-orange beam.
This example is a reproduction. The original prop featured:
* A blue-grey tube with a transparent plastic collar at the firing end (adapted from an Airfix Saturn V rocket kit).
* A large trigger handle and a shoulder brace (repurposed from a Kaiser camera stabilizer, also used on the laser rifle).
* Two front-mounted handles, attached with black rings—one near the underside and another on the rear right side.
* A back section marked “369” and “H-183”, connected to the rear handle by a thick white cable.
* A sighting tube (telescope) mounted on the left side and control buttons along the top.
A striking piece of sci-fi weapon design, it remains one of the most memorable props from the Gerry Anderson universe.
