Screen Worn – Yellow Sleeve Variant from “The Dorcons”
This is an original tunic and skirt uniform from Year 2 of Space: 1999, representing the Service Department, denoted by the yellow sleeve. The uniform has sustained some wear and age-related damage, likely from moths or friction from accessories such as belts, which were commonly worn with these costumes.
Season 2 introduced several design modifications to the uniforms, including the addition of a turtleneck collar in the department color (yellow in this case), secured with Velcro, and triple-line decorative stitching on the sleeves. On the upper left chest is a handmade cloth insignia—an abstract arrangement of letters selected by production designer Keith Wilson, believed to represent Alpha Moonbase, though not meant to have literal meaning.
This particular uniform was worn by the character portrayed by actress L. Sandrock, identifiable in the yellow-sleeved outfit during the episode “The Dorcons.”
A rare and distinctive example of the series’ costume design, showcasing the evolution of department-specific uniforms in Space: 1999.
