Tycho Brahe, a brilliant European astronomer of the 16th century, did in fact wear a metal nose, replacing his own lost at age 20 in a sword duel with his cousin. Brahe's most commonly seen prosthetic nose was made of silver and gold, but he likely had others including at least one made of copper or brass.
