In the Hellboy three-part comic book story The Crooked Man, drawn by the legendary Richard Corben, an Appalachian hillbilly boy crafts a lucky bone from a black cat's corpse, but refuses to use it to bring bad luck to others, reneging on a deal made with a devil. Returning home 20 years later, Tom assists Hellboy's investigation of new witchcraft in the area. The pair soon realize that the evil from decades ago is active again, and that it wants Tom's enchanted bone back.
