Description

This is a full-scale Terracotta Warrior prop created by legendary special effects artist Greg Cannom. While I do not have studio-issued paperwork confirming screen use, multiple professional prop specialists and effects artists who have examined the piece believe it was likely created for the Terracotta Warrior sequence in Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life (2003). Notably, the construction is consistent with special effects fabrication rather than traditional sculpture. The head appears to be made from a different material than the body, which aligns with known SFX practices for creating breakaway or explosive elements for on-screen destruction. This detail has been specifically pointed out by experienced prop professionals as being consistent with how these warriors would have been fabricated for the film’s action scenes. It is widely assumed among those familiar with the piece that Greg Cannom was commissioned outside of official on-screen credits to fabricate Terracotta Warriors for this sequence, which would explain the absence of direct credit attribution in the film. Cannom’s involvement is supported by the craftsmanship, materials, and stylistic execution, all of which closely match his known body of work. At this time, the prop is best described as attributed rather than fully documented. I am sharing this here in the hope that other collectors, crew members, or researchers may be able to provide additional confirmation, insight, or documentation regarding its production history. If anyone has further information or can definitively confirm or refute its use in Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life, I would greatly appreciate hearing from you.
