Description

Monte Blue was a big, silent screen leading man who, as the year went by, progressed to character parts he would enjoy the rest of his life. His career begins with "Birth of A Nation", in 1915, and ends with heavy 1950s television work. He peaked in the 1920s as a suave leading man, progressed through the 1930s and 40s in Westerns, with bit performances in many classic films including "CASABLANCA," and ended playing Indian Chiefs and Sheriffs on "THE LONE RANGER" as well as most of the popular TV westerns. He died in 1963. This is him in one of the first WB West Coast Studio films ever made and was based on Sinclair Lewis' novel of the same name. The piece is dipped bronze, marked MADE IN HOLLYWOOD and signed by Blue. Amazing that such a piece exists at all. This portrait, from MAIN STREET, shows the statue is a good likeness.
