Description

An original M3GAN robotic head from the 2023 Blumhouse horror phenomenon M3GAN, directed by Gerard Johnstone and produced by James Wan, the film that made an AI doll the internet's favorite new horror icon. In the film, roboticist Gemma builds M3GAN, a lifelike artificially intelligent doll, to bond with her orphaned niece Cady, and the doll's protective programming quickly turns murderous. This head represents M3GAN as audiences see her in the film's unforgettable climax: her silicone face torn away to expose the intricate robotic skull beneath, moments before Cady ends her rampage by driving a screwdriver into her exposed processing unit. The animatronic M3GAN was created by Morot FX Studios, led by Academy Award winner Adrien Morot, with design contributions from the legendary Wētā Workshop. On screen, the character was realized through a combination of animatronics, young performer Amie Donald in a mask, and digital effects. The head is a remarkably engineered display piece in its own right, with interchangeable components that recreate the character's on-screen destruction. Magnetic faceplates allow the copper-toned face to be displayed intact or swapped for damaged, smashed versions showing M3GAN's battle wounds. The central "control unit" inside the skull is also removable, with an alternate unit, screwdriver still embedded, that recreates the exact moment of her deactivation. Beneath it all sits a fully detailed mechanical interior of eye assemblies, wiring, and even teeth. A transformable piece from modern horror's breakout robot stands as a true centerpiece of 21st-century genre filmmaking.
