Illuminating full size replica of a landing party laser beacon, so named in first season episode The Squire of Gothos, in which DeSalle attempts to contact the Enterprise with one from the planet's surface. Seen in other episodes, sometimes with different functions, and identified as a 'ray gun' in The Making of Star Trek.
