Krug's (Garret Dillahunt) SFX Exploding Head Bust from the 2009 horror remake, The Last House on the Left. In the film, a group of thugs kidnap Mari (Sara Paxton) and leave her to die because she is a witness to their crimes. By a twist of fate, they seek refuge from a storm at the house of Mari’s parents who don't take kindly to their actions. This exploding head comes from the film's final scene, when Mari’s father John (Tony Goldwyn) has the last of Mari’s assaulters, Krug (Garret Dillahunt) in his custody. Driven by revenge, John puts Krug’s head in a microwave and turns it on which results in his head exploding.
The bust, which is made from silicone over a fiberglass structure, can be arranged to appear mostly intact. To simulate it exploding there are three different pieces of the face (right, left and lower jaw) which can be mechanically operated to open in their respective directions. The interior of the head is highly detailed with utterly destroyed teeth, tattered skin, a tongue and jaw bones protruding through the cheeks. Also included is a metal hose that extends from the rear of the head which was used to spray stage blood and gore. The head features hand punched black hair and a black mustache.
