An original screen-used stop-motion Famine Skeleton puppet from Will Vinton's Claymation Comedy of Horrors, the 1991 Halloween special from legendary Claymation pioneer Will Vinton, the studio behind the California Raisins.
Broadcast on CBS, the special follows the scheming Wilshire Pig and his reluctant sidekick Sheldon Snail as they discover a map leading to Doctor Frankenswine's monstrous creation, a quest that lands them in the middle of a riotous monsters' convention at the doctor's castle, packed with ghouls, ghosts, and goblins. This Famine Skeleton, voiced by Brian Cummings, appears in the film during the pair's hunt for the doctor's monster, one of the many ghoulish characters sculpted and animated frame by frame by Vinton's celebrated team. The special's artistry earned animator Teresa Drilling an Emmy Award for Outstanding Individual Achievement in Animation for her work on the short.
Original puppets from the Will Vinton studio, the house that coined the very term "Claymation," rarely survive outside archives, making this a true centerpiece of stop-motion animation history.
