ED WOOD (1994) was Tim Burton's opus to "the World's Worst Director" Edward D. Wood, Jr., maker of such 1950s classics as PLAN 9 FROM OUTER SPACE, GLEN OR GLENDA?, and BRIDE OF THE MONSTER.
In the middle of the film, Ed Wood, played by mega star JOHNNY DEPP, takes his troupe of friends (including flamboyant psychic Criswell and wrestler Tor Johnson) after hours to a secluded Hollywood prop house in search of the old prop octopus used in John Wayne's WAKE OF THE RED WITCH. As the story went, Wood sought the octopus for his film, BRIDE OF THE MONSTER starring Bela "Dracula" Lugosi. Shown behind Depp in these shots is this 11 foot polar bear mount, originally used as a regular set dressing on TV's classic THE ADDAMS FAMILY(1964). This is the bear that stood in the Addams' living room in most second season episodes. (*please also see my listing under THE ADDAMS FAMILY for more info on this bear) It was also used in the 1991 Paramount THE ADDAMS FAMILY movie (with Raul Julia and Anjelica Houston), as well as the 1970s disco classic THANK GOD, IT'S FRIDAY!.
