Description

A Dinosaur Input Device and terminal from Steven Spielberg’s sci-fi film Jurassic Park. Direct input devices were used as a means to allow traditional stop-motion animators combine their talents with the advent of computer animation. Phil Tippett is credited as the film’s Dinosaur Supervisor, and was instrumental in the development of the dinosaurs through the use of go-motion.Tippett won the Oscar® for Best Visual Effects for his work on this film at the 66th Academy Awards®. Made of a series of metal brackets, this model is linked by joints and hinges that are lined with sensors and cables. These sensors were used to track poses set by the animator and later translated to a computer. The partial frame has two wooden rods fixed to it and the cables are terminated to a plug. The terminal has a metal casing and still retains its electronics. The face features a series of labeled inputs. The plug which extends from the frame fits into the ‘Tail’ input.
