A large 23 inch cast bronze of Joan Crawford from this early film of her in costume after arriving in Paris in heroic pose looking up on a stepped plinth. It was executed by famed sculptor Gilbert Riswold who had just relocated to LA and would die there in 1938. He was known world wide for his large monument output including the Chicago War Memorial, the Mormon Batallon Monument and for statues of Lincoln and Douglas at the Illinois State Capital. There is a companion piece, in reverse looking down, of her then husband Douglas Fairbanks, Jr who mentions the set in his autobiography SALAD DAYS. It was cast by the same foundry responsible for the first Oscars and the Charles Russell western pieces. Riswolds son was a mattte painter at FOX and later became a well known illustrator. It is listed on the Smithsonian Inventory of American Art. EDIT: Just acquired the companion bronze of Douglas Fairbanks, Jr.
