This reel to reel tape recording of Strauss' "thus Sprach Zarathustra" A.k.a. the opening title theme music for Stanley Kubrick's masterpiece 2001: a space Odyssey was created during the post production phase of the film for specific use as the actual music cue for the films soundtrack. It is arguably the most famous piece of music associated with this groundbreaking film. The tape is contained in an MGM studio box, heavily notated both front and back with instructions for the use of the recording in conjunction with the film soundtrack.
