You are looking at Dr.Sy's Bugwriter. One of the few remaining from the film Naked Lunch. William Burroughs had one - it's now in the Beat Museum; David Cronenburg has one in his office; and SFX creator Chris Walas also has one.
At least a dozen were made but several were destroyed in filming or broken down to be used in other projects. If anybody knows the whereabouts of any others, please contact me, via interzone ;)
This is the underside. This particular bug was rigged like a kids pull toy in order to skitter across the floor.....
Post Script From Nic Saunders - 13 were made. 4 were trashed during making the film, 1 is in Cronenberg's office, 1 is in Chris Walas' office, 1 went to the Burroughs estate - that leaves 6. You have one, so I presume the other 5 are in private collectors hands. From correspondance I've had, 3 of those 5 are with the same person and are all in poor state. You have one of the 3 in private hands in top condition.
