Honey, I Shrunk the Kids, Wayne Szalinski's (Rick Moranis) Lab Badge
original movie costume
This visitor's badge can be seen being worn by Professor Wayne Szalinski (Rick Moranis) in Honey, I Shrunk the Kids (1989) during the lab presentation of his electromagnetic shrink ray. The badge is handmade with a real photograph of the actor inside of the lamination. After claiming that his invention can reduce the amount of empty space in any given object and thereby shrink its size, the skeptical crowd of scientists asks for proof. Szalinski, who's still working out the kinks of his shrink ray, replies, “When Einstein came up with the atomic bomb, did they ask him to prove that it worked?” One scientist shouts out before leaving,“You, Mr. Szalinski, are hardly Einstein. You have, however, managed to shrink one thing: the size of this audience.” Humiliated and defeated, Szalinski heads home only to find out that his invention does work—and has shrunk the kids!
