American Graffiti, Vintage Universal Films Canister . American Graffiti
original production material
This old metal canister, a movie icon piece manufactured by Goldberg Bros for Universal Pictures, at one time, held and transported the George Lucas´s film American Graffiti. Now is empty.
This canister has a multitude of labels and markings on it, though, have been scratched by a dumb guy who by then didn’t know the value this thing could have in years. In addition to this it has dents, markings, paint loss, and corrosion throughout so has become practically illegible. But still can be read a date, 5/74, the transport system used to carry this “TRUCK” and beneath the word “title”, the words “..AN GRAFFITI”, that has to be referred to AMERICAN GRAFFITI as no other movie title exists with that words in that era.
As I said the date in this canister is 5/74, although American Graffiti was first time released in summer of 1973. This can have an explanation because American Graffiti was a sleeper hit, so this could have been for a town cinema that released the film late, or could have been a re-release because of the success also.
There are some other markings, embossed on the aluminum. "Mfg. by," "Goldberg Bros.," and “Universal”. American Graffiti was the distributed by Universal pictures.
“AN GRAFFITI” and the date can be seen in this photo
