The Vidiians of the Delta Quadrant were once an advanced culture, ravaged for two millenia by an incurable chronically debilitating virus called the Phage. In their efforts to combat the disease, ethics have become obsolete, and the harvesting of exobiologic tissues and organs, generally from unwilling donors, gradually became acceptable and necessary for their survival.

The Vidiian Harvester is a sophisticated weapon, scanner, and surgical instrument, that "puts a tricorder to shame". Combining a neural resonator stunner with a quantum imaging scanner and a microtransporter, a Harvester can incapacitate a victim and extract living organs within seconds.
