Gremlins 2: The New Batch, Vegetable Gremlin
original movie prop
This is a hero Vegetable Gremlin puppet from the 1990 creature feature Gremlins 2: The New Batch.
Created by Rick Baker and his team, this is the puppet of the Gremlin that drinks a vegetable medley, thus sprouting produce all over its face. Made of foam latex, this puppet features lettuce for skin, as well as tomatoes, peppers, legumes, and carrots over its face and body. The piece features disabled puppetry mechanisms which were used by puppeteers on set: There is a wire and toggle stick which once controlled the eyes and eyelids, and handles sticking out of the arms that controlled the arms and allowed the hands to clinch; they have all been disabled to protect the fragile puppet. The puppet has been brilliantly restored by Brian Penikas, a painter for the film originally, and his team at Make-Up and Monsters Studios. It is presented on its original stand which has been painted black. The puppet stands 32” (81cm) tall; the base is 16” x 12” (40.5cm x 30.5cm). This piece is in great condition.
