Resident Evil: Afterlife, Umbrella P30 Mind Control Scarab

As we learn in flashback, the survivors of Resident Evil: Extinction found Arcadia, only to discover too late that it was just an Umbrella Corporation trap, when Umbrella troops forcibly attach these pharmacologic mind control devices to their chests. Claire Redfield gradually recovers her memories after Alice detaches her scarab.  The device is seen again at the end of the film, controlling Jill Valentine.

The appearance and function of this device is taken from the Resident Evil 5 video game, in which the player must detach one from the chest of former partner Jill Valentine, as she tries to kill you. Files unlocked in-game explain it as an injector designed for constant infusion of the chemical P30.  P30, discovered as a by-product of Progenitor virus research, is a short-acting drug that induces complete obedience to commands, as well as enhanced strength and agility.
