This is a throw down (background) phaser purchased from an original Star Trek TV show crew member, David Gerrold. David states, in part, in a letter of authenticity that came with this piece, "...this phaser is what is called a "throw down". It was typically worn by stunt doubles and extras. It was used throughout the series' production. It was used in multiple episodes. You will notice the remains of a velcro strip on one side of the pistol; this was used to attach the prop to a matching strip on the actor's hip....."
