That Thing You Do - 1996 movie starring Tom Hanks,
tells the unlikely tale of a fictitious Erie, Pennsylvania band called The Wonders (originally the ONEDERS.) With the help of a catchy single, these likeable teenagers go from garage band to nationwide sensation within a matter of months. But when they reach the top, how long will they be able to stay there?
These are the screen used prop records from the movie. The first one, all white label, was their first pressing after recording at a local church. Once Playtone management took over they the discs were repressed, relabeled and the result is also shown below. This Playtone prop is much different than the ones that are sold on eBay. The one in the movie had the B side as "All My Only Dreams". The ones on eBay that were promotional items had a different B side and had promotional picture sleeves to go with them. I also have one of those.
Pictured above is the first issue of "That Thing You Do" under their original band name of ONEDERS. When Tom Hanks took over management of the group he told them that because of the confusion they will now be called, "the Wonders" instead. There is no "B" side of this record.
Note: The Promotional record with picture sleeve you see commonly has the B side as "Dance With Me Tonight."
