Long before DST released their all plastic toy TOS tricorders, I modified this full-scale prop-replica by adding an animated lighting feature to the screen. The tricorder features an aluminum frame and standard chirping sound effects and flashing indicator LEDs. In it's original form, this tricorder chirpped and flashed its 3 LEDs when the top was opened - I modified the circuit so the top could be left open for display without activating the light and sound; now you have to press a button to activate these and the screen lighting.
