This is a full scale prop-replica that I built via 'kit bashing'. Kit bashing is simply the technique of combining parts from one or more kits to produce a more accurate or more detailed finished product. The basis of my replica is a 23rd Century Pistol kit plastic P-II body. To this I added after-market metal parts for the emitter housing, the grip (heavy cast metal), the trigger, the P-I release pin, the heat fins, and the power setting knob. The 'bashing' element comes from replacing the 23rd Century kit's plastic P-I with a Roddenberry cast resin phaser with metal fittings. I added electronics for light and sound to both the P-I and P-II units - the P-I powers the P-II and the P-II will not fire if the P-I is removed. The P-II is also wired to permit selection of red, blue, or green phaser beams. The metal grip on the P-II gives the replica a nice solid hefty feel.
