Authentic and original prop "mallet" or hammer used in a cluster of THE THREE STOOGES Columbia shorts of the 1930s-40s era. ------------------------- Seen here used by Larry (Dr.Fine) in MEN IN BLACK, and Curly in DIZZY DOCTORS, Larry in DISORDER IN THE COURT, ....by Curly in ALL THE WORLD'S A STOOGE ("ANESTHETIC!") ..Moe (on Curly) in HOW HIGH IS UP? ...And used by both Moe and Larry in CUCKOO CAVALIERS in the "beauty parlor" scene..Also by Moe in the art school "still" from WEE WEE MOUSEIUR, and in the actual short. -----This prop was obtained directly from the estate of an ex-Columbia employee that worked on the Stooge shorts, this prop being his prize momento of his years with The Stooges. It was his main conversation piece in a home filled with vintage 'souveniers' of Columbia and other studios he worked for. ------ There were three similarly constructed mallets of various 'comedic size' (a large, a medium, and a small size- all three seen in the MEN IN BLACK in photo above) made specifically for "conking noggins" without hurting anybody! This 'medium' sized mallet seems to be the preferred and used the most often, presumably the easiest size to handle. It has long since 'petrified' and shows its 60+ years on the planet. As a side note, the mallet is constructed from identical era-typical materials as the ape and dinosaur puppets from classic KING KONG(RKO 1933)-some of which were in the former collection of Forrest J Ackerman, the puppets now belonging to 'new-Kong' producer Peter Jackson. An incredibly rare piece, used over several years at Columbia by all three of the Stooges! In the closeup photo #4 above (pointing left) the prop is compared to a screen grab from ALL THE WORLD'S A STOOGE, being held by Curly Howard.

 In the numerous other photos above, the prop is shown in comparison to screen grabs from MEN IN BLACK- the mallet was used exclusively by Larry Fine throughout the short, and is often seen belted to his doctor scrub's waist.

NOTE: in the third photo above, the "dimple" in the mallet (arrow) can be spotted in the screen grab!

99.9% of supposed original Stooge props (like those regularly offered by ebay seller "angusmckeag") are total bullshit and are just bought/found items, claimed to be original props 'bought from the propmaster at a 1970s Van Nuys prop sale', etc.

Here is an authentic Stooge prop with genuine Columbia provenance, and can actually be SPOTTED AND COMPARED in several Stooge shorts. This is indeed the "Reel Deal".
