Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, Steaming Meat Pie
original movie prop
”He certainly does. Sweeney Todd's Tonsorial Parlor, above my Meat Pie Emporium in Fleet Street.” A steaming oven pie used in the production of the Tim Burton musical Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street. Returning to London after being banished by a corrupt judge, Benjamin Barker (Johnny Depp) takes on the alias of Sweeney Todd as he goes on a bloody rampage in revenge for his dead wife. This pie and others like it were used for the climax of the film when Todd throws the conniving pie maker and his partner in crime, Nellie Lovett (Helena Bonham Carter), into her own pie oven. Made of fiberglass, the pie has been made with a metal cup internally to allow for the burning of incense, which rose through small holes drilled in the pie cover to appear as though it was steaming. This incense then filled the oven to further add to the effect. The top of the pie has a floral design on top is finished in varying shades of brown to appear as though the pastry has been thoroughly baked.
