Abe Sapien's (Doug Jones) Upper Body Costume Display from Guillermo del Toro’s 2008 superhero hit, Hellboy II: The Golden Army. The film follows Hellboy (Ron Pearlman) and his team as they face the greatest threat the world has ever seen in an army of unspeakable darkness. Joining him in his struggle as always is his best friend and trusted agent, Abraham Sapien.
This bust is made up of several make-up appliances worn by Jones during production and several made for Jones that were ultimately unused. The set includes his mask, neck cowl, torso and arms, and a pair of gloves. The pieces are made primarily of foam latex, with silicone webbing on the cheeks, under the arms, and between the fingers. Plastic and resin fins, gills, teeth, and eyes complete the amphibious look. The torso piece is built over a black lycra suit.
These appliances have been assembled on a custom made mannequin with a wooden display base. Due to their use and age, some of the pieces show some small signs of damage. The webbed silicon between both thumbs has ripped, and there are some parts of the torso where paint has worn. Aside from the wear mentioned above, this piece remains in great, production used condition.
