Joe Lamb’s (Joel Courtney) Distressed Costume from J.J. Abrams’s 2011 sci-fi mystery, Super 8. In the summer of 1979, a group of filmmaking friends witness a train crash and begin their own investigation of the mysterious events taking place in their town.
While the group is filming a romantic scene at the train station, a military transport train violently crashes during their take. This costume was worn as Joe's dirtied version, and can be seen distressed after the event of the crash. Included in this set is a shirt, jeans, jacket, along with shoes and socks. The shirt is a short sleeved brown button up with a pattern of decorative ringed floral images. The shirt has a front chest pocket on the left side, and has been marked as “Joe 1” on the inside Costume Co-Op tag by the production. The five pocket style jeans are slate blue in color and have been intentionally dirtied along with the rest of the costume, especially noticeable around the knees. On the inside waist of the pants is another Costume Co-Op tag, also marked as “Joe 1.”
The jacket is a blue windbreaker with grey fabric accents at the collar, waist and wrists. The jacket zips up in the front, and includes two waist pockets. The inside tag from Costume Co-Op is marked as “Stunt Joe” but has had “Stunt” crossed out by the production. The shoes are faded blue Pro-Keds with white laces and soles, while the socks are full length white socks with red and blue stripes at the top.
The items in this costume do not include any sizing information apart from the shoes, which are a size 9 (US) men’s, but the costume remains in great condition and includes a tag from the production indicating the scene in which is was worn.
