Gone with the Wind, Scarlett O'Hara's Cameo Brooch
replica movie prop
This is a replica of the CAMEO BROOCH worn by SCARLETT O'HARA (Vivien Leigh) in the 1863 Christmas dinner scene of the movie GONE WITH THE WIND (1939). It was designed by Ricarde of Hollywood, a company that specialized in reproductions of jewelry from period movies, (the most famous of these having been GONE WITH THE WIND). Most of the pieces made by them, (as is the case with this brooch), were not mfg. marked.
In 1940, the LUX SOAP company ran ads in Women's magazines and newspapers for this brooch as a send-in offer. At that time it could be obtained for 15 cents plus three soap wrappers. This pin is often referred to as "The Lux Brooch" among GONE WITH THE WIND enthusiasts and collectors.
It measures approximately 1.75" in diameter and protrudes about 3/8". It is comprised of a beautiful matte goldtone metal trimmed in both rope-twist and Grecian Key borders surrounding a beautiful cameo, which is finely detailed in ivory-tone over jet-black hard plastics.
These brooches, (being over 70 years old now), are getting increasingly harder to come by, but can still occasionally be found on e-Bay or specialty sites for anywhere between $50.00 to $150.00 depending on its condition.
