The Mummy, Scarab Beetle (Foam Rubber)

This is a genuine prop rubber scarab beetle used in the Imhotep mummification scenes; rubber beetles were employed for the shoot and replaced digitally with computerized scarabs. These scarab beetles were actually used as seen clearly in the special edition DVD computer generated images (second image) were later added to make them come to life.
The scarab's design was achieved by taking the "worst" traits of certain insect species, such as pincers and movements, and combining them all to digitally create a variety of insect.
