Speculative interpretation of gumshoe Sam Spade's badge wallet and contents. High quality metal star, PI license, driver's license, concealed carry permit, Spade & Archer employee card and business cards, Det. Sgt. Tom Polhaus' card, and a ticket to the Geary Theater (although Sam didn't actually keep that ticket after going through Cairo's effects.)

Spade's 6-point silver star badge is based on the San Francisco Special Police and Police Reserve badges of the 30s and 40s. These badges, issued by the SFPD and similar to the police department's own 7-point star, were given to investigators, store detectives, security guards, and various influential citizens. A private eye in SF who was not part of the special police might still have chosen to carry an agency badge of similar design.
