Robin of Sherwood, SFX Stunt Arrow Rig
original movie prop weapon
Used also in Robin Hood Prince of Thieves, and many other productions, this stunt rig simulates a person being shot with an arrow when practical effects were used instead of CGI!
A shortened arrow is fed through a hole in an actors costume and connects with the rig. It is on a spring and lies flat against the actors body, held by a bolt, usually concealed in the folds of the costume or hidden by an arm, shield, or crossbow. There is a pressure controlled wire that leads up the actors arm to his hand. When depressed, the arrow springs up into place. Pretty simple device but effective. Very unusual now to find in the wild.
