Starship Troopers, Rubber Prop Morita
original movie prop
This futuristic prop “Morita” was used by the character “Dizzy Flores” portrayed by actress Dina Meyers in the 1997 science fiction film “Starship Troopers” directed by Paul Verhoeven. The non-firing prop weapon is constructed of dense rubber with hand painted details and is attached to a black nylon shoulder strap. Includes the costumer’s tag with “Dizzy (Dina Meyer) Starship Troopers” handwritten in black marker, and the costumer’s name “R. Gallotti” on the verso. The character’s name “Dizzy” is handwritten in black marker on the underside of the prop.
Ms. Meyers used this prop during the action battle scenes and stunt sequences. This Morita is notably seen when Dizzy is reassigned to the “Roughnecks” troop and they respond to a distress call that ends up being an Arachnid trap.
“Starship Troopers” was nominated for an Oscar for Best Visual Effects, and also won two Saturn Awards from the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy, and Horror Films for Best Costumes and Best Special Effects in 1998. The film remains a classic amongst science fiction fans and this signature “Hero” weapon will make an impressive addition to any collection of screen used film memorabilia.
The prop is in good screen used condition. The underside of the gun near the trigger has the character name “Dizzy” handwritten in black ink. Accompanied by a letter of authenticity from the film’s weapons coordinator who oversaw its use on the production.
