Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Renegade Jem'Hadar Vest

original movie costume

This vest is a costume component that appeared in only one episode of any Trek series - 'To The Death' - Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Season 4, episode 23.

In this episode, the Sisko and crew must team up with Weyoun and some Jem'Hadar to track down some renegade Jem'Hadar who have discovered an Iconian gateway on a remote outpost world, Vandros IV.  The black vest helped distinguish between the two types of Jem'Hadar during fight scenes - black being worn by the renegades.

The fight scenes in which this vest were used were the most violent ones ever filmed for Star Trek and the sensors rated the episode a '15' and cut 45 seconds (and over 30 kills) due to the nature of the battle.

An item of note for this episode - this is the first appearance of the Vorta Weyoun (and was going to be the only appearance) therefore it is the first time Weyoun died (killed by one of his own Jem'Hadar).  Jeffery Combs did such a good job selling the role that the concept of cloning the Vorta was invented in order to bring the character back in the following season - this led to future 'deaths' for the character (almost a running gag).

This vest, mistakenly, has 'Voyager' costume tags which is a known occurence for background items during the production overlap of DS9 and VOY.

The tags have the names of Ryan Wilson and Tom Morga.  Morga is a known character actor (usually prosthetic aliens) throughout the movies and later 4 series - he went uncredited and acted as well as performed stunts.

Screen-caps are included for reference.
