Brainstorm, Recording Strip

original movie prop

Mike Brace (Christopher Walken) is a technological genius who's created a device that can record and play back human thought. But when the military emerges as an unwanted 'silent partner' in his project, Mike and his wife (Natalie Wood) are thrust into a breathless, non-stop race to prevent the machine from falling into the wrong hands and becoming the ultimate government weapon in this touching, thought-provoking thriller.

This is a section of the recording strip used on screen and can be seen throughout the film. It was used to record experiences to be replayed through a sensory headset. It is a foil strip that is gold on one side and silver on the other side. It measures approximately 15 inches long and 3 inches wide. The iridescent color of the Metallic Tape makes it reflect in a unique prismatic way. Like colored stars-patterns. Exactly as seen on the film, when you look at it from various angles.

This piece was acquired from a Staff Member at Boss Films. The Special Effects Company owned by the Academy Award Winning Richard Edlund, which closed it's doors in September of 1997. Boss's Crew often worked with Douglas Trumbull on his films. And when Boss closed, much of the Modeling, Prop and Visual Effects Staff, forced to clean off thier work benches and storage and supply areas, sold off miscellaneous pieces they still had in their possession, from the various films they had worked on. The custom display measures 17.5" wide x 7.5" deep x 9" tall and is a table top style display case.
