The Abyss, Production Used Mothership Tunnel Section

This tunnel section from The Abyss was created by Donald Pennington and Can Dive Services LTD (Submersibles Special effect teams) for the scenes where Virgil “Bud” Brigman (Ed Harris) was taken by the alien to the Mother ship which was hidden at the bottom of the ocean. The alien took him floating on this “rollercoaster” ride through this beautiful long tunnel which appeared to be the entrance of the mother ship. This shown tunnel section was only a small part of this complex system and is made of vacuform plastic. The lighter parts in the pattern on the tube seems to be tiny holes but are actually grinded spots, made as thin as light could shine through it. Special colored lighting shining through these thin layers created the beautiful “extra terrestrial” look inside the tube. The prop is signed by Donald Pennington. Measuring 50 inches in length.
