Warehouse 13, Pliny the Elder Amber Scroll Artifact

In fourth season episode The Ones You Love, Claudia discovers that an artifact has been maliciously sent to her brother Joshua's home, and arrives to find him standing immobile, encased in solid amber. She eventually notices the small scroll Josh is holding in his hand, apparently just removed from a package. Claudia proceeds to rescue her brother, shattering the amber around his hand by heating it with a blowtorch and quickly pouring ice water on it, then taking the scroll and neutralizing it. Pliny's scroll is seen again in fifth season episode A Faire to Remember, where Artie uses it to (temporarily) immobilize a rampaging Myka under the influence of another artifact.

Gaius Plinius Secondus, aka Pliny the Elder, was a Roman scholar, philosopher and soldier, who among many other achievements, wrote one of the first encyclopedias, titled Naturalis Historia, around 79 AD. Pliny observed that solid amber found in nature must have been liquid at one time in the distant past, after studying insects encased in amber nuggets.
