This is a CGI scanning model piranha from the 2010 horror-comedy, Piranha 3D. This particular fish puppet was scanned for use in the creation of CGI fish effects ultimately seen in the film.
Crafted from resin, this item features a highly detailed, scale painted exterior; with a gradating blue, gray color scheme, as well as red accents around the gills and fins. This item also features a pair of acrylic orange and blue eyes, numerous pointy spines attached at top, and an open mouth filled with pointed teeth.
The fish comes on a custom display stand which features the film’s logo laser-cut on the front. The logo illuminates by ultra-bright LED lights, powered by replaceable batteries, and can be easily switched on/off with a button located on the display's back. the entire piece, including the display, measures approximately 8" x 20" x 16" (20cm x 51cm x 41cm); the left front fin is no longer present due to production use (see photos) but overall, the fish remains in very good condition.
