Jaws, Piece from Spielberg's Log Cabin
swatch / fragment production material
Many die-hard Jaws fans are familiar with stories of Steven Spielberg's island home-away-from-home during the production of "Jaws", and the creative moments that originated there each night. It was at the dinnertable in this cabin where Quint's famous Indianapolis Speech was written and developed. It was also where screenwriter Carl Gottlieb daily typed the script as they went along. For seven long months, this cabin was Steven's only refuge from the stressful shoot on Martha's Vineyard. He would sometimes hope and pray for rain, so he could stay in bed, and not have to deal with the daily hell that was "making Jaws."
In subsequent years, it became a mecca for Jaws fans visiting the island; and an indespensible part of the now-legendary "making of" Jaws lore.
The cabin, called the Oxbow Lodge, which was built in the 30's, sadly, was demolished in 2006, but thanks to a resourceful fan, some of the logs were were salvaged and cut into sections as you see here.
