Paul, Paul Alien lifesize stand-in Puppet

This is a full size stand-in of the title character made for the 2011 Simon Pegg film Paul. To bring the Alien character to life, CGI was used as well as several different versions of a life-sized puppet. This particular puppet was used during production to allow actors to interact with a “real” Paul. An in-depth behind-the-scenes featurette titled “The Many Pauls” can be found as a special feature on the DVD/Bluray exploring the different techniques used to make the one character was realized on film.
This piece is made of gray painted foam rubber with an interior wire structure, adding stability. Paul has been designed with the “classic alien look”: large black eyes, as well as an elongated dome-shaped head, as well as four fingers on each hand. The puppet measures approximately 52” (132cm) tall and is in good production used condition with some cracking to the foam, the majority of which is around the upper arm joints and upper back (see photos).
This item comes on a custom display stand which features a metal rod attached at the puppet’s back which allows him to stand upright as well as the film’s logo laser-cut on the front. The logo illuminates by ultra-bright LED lights, powered by replaceable batteries, and can be easily switched on/off with a button located on the display's back. The entire piece, including stand, measure approximately 54" x 20" x 18" (137cm x 51cm x 46cm.)
