Star Trek: The Next Generation, Painting of Spot

replica movie prop

As Data explores human artistic expression, his efforts at painting involve creating new works in the styles of famous artists from history.  His cherished pet cat Spot is seen to be the subject for a Picasso-esque portrait in seventh season episode Inheritance; the piece is seen again in Data's quarters in the movie Star Trek: Generations.

The original painting was created in the style of Pablo Picasso by Star Trek TNG scenic art illustrator Wendy Drapanas, as an art department-made digital print on canvas with hand-applied overpaint texture.  For this replica, the image was first reproduced in the form of a new oil painting by a talented illustrator, and then digitally scanned, enhanced and printed to canvas, closely recreating the screenused prop. Mounted on 14" x 20" stretcher bars.
