Star Wars: A New Hope, Original Death Star Miniature

original model / miniature

A piece of the Death Star model used in the 1977 sci-fi Star Wars film A New Hope.

This is one of the smaller pieces created by ILM model makers for use in creating the large filming miniature of the Death Star surface. This particular style can be seen on the original Death Star in Star Wars: A New Hope. Many interlocking abstract pieces were made, this particular piece being formed using biscuit foam construction and painted and detailed to the high ILM standard.

This piece originally comes from the collection of visual effects guru Richard Edlund.

It has been recovered from Lucas Archive storage and is now displayed here in this beautiful cabinet.  There are not many of there original Death Star pieces remaining, so it is highly collectable as well as valuable.
