Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, ODN Scanner

made from scratch movie prop

This scanner has been seen in various DS9 and Voyager episodes but was never referred to by name. The "ODN Scanner" moniker was coined by Andreas Springer at trekprops.de and is used here for consistency and convenience.

This scanner is a personal scratch build from styrene, acrylic and polycarbonate. A "Soft-Feel" Push On-Push Off Switch activates LEDs providing backlight to the screen graphic, the top emitter, and the sequential flashing green indicator lights. A second momentary switch activates an on-screen "scan" where red lights light at random before settling on "trouble areas" in the Optical Data Network (ODN). This scanner is powered by a 9V battery that can be accessed by removing two screws and sliding the grip off the scanner body. You can find the thread documenting the build on Trek Prop Zone.
