original movie costume
This costume was worn by the character “Noxeema” played by actor Wesley Snipes in the 1995 comedy film, “To Wong Foo Thanks for Everything, Julie Newmar.” The film co-starred Patrick Swayze and John Leguizamo. The ensemble consists of a purple lycra dress with chain straps, pink crop top, custom made padded under garments, and DiFabrizio gold cross heals.
Mr. Snipes can be seen wearing this costume towards the end of the film as the drag queen trio departs the small town of Snydersville. Noxeema gives her farewells to the townsfolk, including a group of men who heckled her upon their initial meeting. The shoes are also worn with the white dress and knit cover while lounging on a porch in Snydersville.
“To Wong Foo” is a film about three New York City drag queens that travel across the country towards Hollywood for a national drag queen contest. Their car breaks down, leaving them stranded in the small town of Syndersville. The title of the film refers to the autographed picture that Vida (Patrick Swayze) carries with them throughout their trip as a token of their journey. This costume comes accompanied by a letter of authenticity.
