Caleb, leader of a group of displaced Hollow Earth Abnormals who don't wish to conceal themselves from ordinary humans, delivers this mysterious vial to Big, who then has it taken to Magnus and Tesla, as a hint at what's to come. They discover that the liquid is an infectious agent capable of activating the abnormal DNA of any human it infects; a perfect way to conquer the much larger population of Normals, without killing them.
