Star Trek: The Next Generation, Medical Device (static)

I know this was made for The Next Generation and that it was used on set for a while as a medical item in or around sickbay.
I also know that it became 'dinged' due to rough handling and that the studio people clamped it into a lathe to 'fix' it and were stopped but not until the clamp of the lathe caused further dings.
There are versions of this with a lighting tip that can be spotted on screen, but I have yet to find an episode where this item is visible.
