Le cigare introuvable, Lumiere Film in original Canister
original production material
The 35 MM print of the 1897 short produced by the pioneer Lumiere Brothers who have the strongest claim to be the inventors of commerical film projection and film production, housed in the original canister. The short film runs but a minute. Most of their catalog is of real events like a train arriving at a station or a parade. This one has three unusual clowns fighting for a discarded cigar butt and is one of five known. Ironically, the brothers gave up motion pictures right after the turn of the century having stated "the cinema is an invention without any future".
