When Luke Skywalker was captured by the cloned Emperor Palpatine in 10 ABY, he submitted to an apprenticeship as a Dark Jedi, believing that he could defeat the Dark Side of the Force by learning it's secrets from within. Putting away his own lightsaber in favor of this blunter design, he soon found himself caught in the Dark Side's embrace. Only Leia's arrival allowed Luke to partially dispel the dark influence and turn on Palpatine. Note that this saber has no power switch; it is activated only by using the Force.
