Big Trouble in Little China, Lightning's straw hat

Worn by actor James Pax as the villain Lightning in multiple scenes, this iconic straw hat from John Carpenter’s action-adventure-comedy Big Trouble in Little China would later help inspire the look of the character Raiden from the Mortal Kombat video game franchise.
The hand woven oversized hat measures about 30 inches in diameter by 14 inches tall. The original Velcro neck closure and chinstraps are still intact and “Pax” is faintly written in white marker on the black inner lining of the crown. Due to age and production use, some of the straw is missing from the top…yet it remains quite recognizable to fans of the cult classic.
