In this post-apocalyptic SyFy soap opera, a group of humans and members of multiple alien races collectively known as the Votan fight to preserve what's left of the city of St. Louis (renamed Defiance), 33 years after the arrival of alien colony ships to what was thought to be an uninhabited planet, Earth.   In the first episode, we meet the old Lawkeeper, who promptly proceeds to get himself killed, leaving the job in the hands of the stranger with the mysterious military past who just wandered into town.
